Assassin’s Creed Nexus: A Virtual Reality Journey with Legendary Assassins

The upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Nexus presents a novel experience for players, as it allows them to embody three beloved Assassins like never before. Speculation surrounding a virtual reality spin-off of the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise has been circulating for years, but it wasn’t until 2020 that Ubisoft officially confirmed the project. Since then, the internet has been abuzz with conjecture about how the captivating stealth and parkour gameplay of Assassin’s Creed would translate into a virtual reality setting, as well as the possible time periods and locations the game would explore.

During the VR Meta Showcase on June 1, a tantalizing teaser for the long-awaited Assassin’s Creed VR title was finally unveiled. While the teaser didn’t reveal much, keen-eyed fans quickly discerned clues suggesting that past Assassins from the franchise’s history might be playable characters in Nexus. This aligns with earlier reports speculating that Assassin’s Creed Nexus would feature an anthology of sorts, highlighting notable assassins from different eras. Now, players have received definitive confirmation that they will have the opportunity to step into the shoes of some of the series’ most iconic protagonists.

A brand new trailer for Assassin’s Creed Nexus debuted during Ubisoft Forward 2023, showcasing the game’s first-person perspective and the ability for players to engage in jumping, sneaking, and lethal combat across various historically inspired landscapes. The roster of fan-favorite assassins players can assume includes Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the heroic figure from Assassin’s Creed 2 and its related titles set in the Italian Renaissance; Connor Kenway/Ratonhnhaké:ton, the cunning assassin who fought during the American Revolution in Assassin’s Creed 3; and Kassandra, one of the two playable characters in the ancient Greece-based Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Following the trailer, Ubisoft Montreal Community Developer Clement Dagonneau took the stage at Ubisoft Forward 2023 to describe how Assassin’s Creed Nexus will revolutionize virtual reality, enabling players to immerse themselves in the heart-pounding stealth and parkour experiences characteristic of the franchise through the eyes of these legendary warriors. He also announced that Nexus would be available on Meta Quest VR headsets during the upcoming holiday season.

In addition to Nexus, today’s Ubisoft Forward livestream showcased other exciting titles in the Assassin’s Creed series. Assassin’s Creed: Codename Jade is an open-world RPG set in ancient China, offering players a free-to-play experience on mobile devices. Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed Mirage will reunite players with Basim from Valhalla in an adventure slated for release in October. In the meantime, the newly unveiled Assassin’s Creed Nexus promises to deliver an adrenaline-fueled, first-person perspective on some of the franchise’s most beloved heroes through the immersive realm of virtual reality later this year.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus is set to launch during the holiday season of 2023 exclusively for Meta Quest VR.
